Beyond the home

Trusted in some of Scotland’s most celebrated interiors.

Alongside the private work we are known for, we take on commercial and contract projects for hotels, bars, restaurants and heritage venues. From a single statement chair to the seating and soft furnishings of an entire room, the approach is the same: every piece built by hand to last in spaces that see daily use. The craftsmanship does not change with the scale of the job.

Edinburgh Castle

Replacing all the leather seats and backs for the War Museum at Edinburgh Castle, a full re-leathering of the seating within one of Scotland’s most visited landmarks.

Every seat and back was re-covered in hard-wearing hide, cut and finished by hand to take constant daily use while keeping the understated look the setting calls for.

Commercial upholstery

A seamless service, start to finish

Absolute Upholstery work with a wide range of commercial clients, including hotels, bars, nightclubs, doctors’ and dental surgeries, restaurants and offices, as well as the luxury leisure and hospitality sectors.

We are happy to remove existing pieces to our Edinburgh workshop, or to work on-site and out of sight where needed. All our staff are smartly dressed and discreet, so you can rest assured your customers won’t be disturbed and it will be business as usual in every respect.

Featured project

The Royal Yacht Britannia

Making loose covers for the Queen’s furniture in the main living area of the Royal Yacht Britannia, tailored in a floral printed linen chosen to suit the character of the room.

Each cover was measured, cut and sewn by hand to fit the piece precisely, keeping the sympathetic, period look a setting like this calls for.

The Scotch Whiskey Experience

Bespoke studded leather stools and seat pads for one of Edinburgh’s best-known visitor attractions, each piece built from the frame up and upholstered by hand in rich burgundy hide.

From the timber bases through to the final row of studs, every stool was made and finished in our Edinburgh workshop, detailed to suit the venue and to stand up to constant daily use.
